CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Jim Garren, the Oklahoma assistant who helped the Sooners to the national title this spring, is taking over the men's golf program at Coastal Carolina, the former collegiate home to world No. 1 Dustin Johnson.
The school announced Garren's hiring Thursday. He spent the past three seasons at Oklahoma where the Sooners made the NCAA finals each year.
Garren also coached at New Mexico and Southern Mississippi. He said he was going to work hard to turn the Chanticleers back into a championship-caliber program.
Johnson played for the Chanticleers from 2003-07.
The team missed the NCAAs the past two seasons.
