PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU ) - It's not what Jorge Perez expected when he came back to the home he's been house-sitting in Northeast Portland.

"I asked him, 'Who are you?' And he said, 'I'm your new roommate,'" said Perez.

Perez said the man wasn't wearing shoes and seemed paranoid. Perez said the man told him his probation officer had dropped him off and that he was waiting for three other friends who were going to stay there.

That's when Perez called the homeowner, Rosie Morrison.

"I'm glad Jorge was here, because that's the reason he is here, because I was afraid of squatters or people coming in here while I was finishing the house," said Morrison.

Morrison said the house has been under renovations for the past year.

"From the outside it does look like it's a vacant house; however, it's my house, so no one has a right to enter our house, as far as I'm concerned," said Morrison.

Portland police officers questioned the man, but eventually let him go.

Morrison is worried someone might come back to the house, but is thankful no one was hurt.

"I can't imagine if I had come in here alone, I don't know what could have happened," said Morrison.
