Police: Woman faces first-degree murder charges after deadly shooting

UPDATE: Tulsa police say the suspect, identified as Maria Barrett, is facing first-degree murder charges.

Police say they were dispatched to the East Central Village Apartments in reference to a shooting around 8:30 a.m. Friday. When they arrived, they discovered 27-year-old Joshua Floyd laying on the back porch area of the residence with a gunshot wound.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

Officers found 20-year-old Barrett at the scene. She told police she shot her boyfriend.

Barrett told detectives that she and Floyd had gotten into an argument. She said Floyd broke her coffee table and walked out of the apartment, then she locked him out. Barrett said he started yelling at her from the front door, then walked around to the back door and started kicking it.

Barrett said she was in fear, so she took her handgun out of her purse and shot into the door. She told detectives that she could have called police but instead handled it this way.

She's being held in the Tulsa County Jail without bond.


TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) -- Tulsa police are investigating a deadly shooting at the East Central Village Apartments near Admiral and North 129th East Avenue.

Officers say a woman shot a man around 8:30 a.m. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

The woman stayed on scene and is in police custody for questioning.

Officers are investigating what led up to the shooting.
