Confirmed tornado leaves 'catastrophic damage' in eastern Oklahoma

UPDATE 12:00 p.m.

KTUL's Gusty News 8 Drone captured the massive tornado damage at Snake Creek Marina on Lake Tenkiller. Scores of boats destroyed in their slips, homes and buildings nearby damaged or devastated.


UPDATE 11:15 a.m.

Cherokee County Emergency Management says one person was taken to the hospital with a head wound.

About 50 homes in Cherokee County are uninhabitable.


UPDATE 11:00 a.m.

An insurance surveyor said Blackgum was the hardest area hit Friday night.

He said more than a dozen homes and businesses are destroyed.


UPDATE 10:45 a.m.

Dozens of boats and boat slips destroyed at Snake Creek Marina on Lake Tenkiller.

Even though Cherokee County sustained massive damage, there are no reports of injuries.


UPDATE 10:30 a.m.

The National Weather Service confirms a tornado touched down near Cookson.

Their working to determine how strong it was and how long it was on the ground.


Many towns across Green Country experienced storm damage following severe weather Friday night.

Our KTUL storm chasers and meteorologists tracked the storms all night.

High school football games were put on halt until the storms passed.

Some viewers sent in evidence of a possible tornado touching down near Tenkiller.
