Oral Roberts University says an international student who recently traveled to China to visit family is under a 14-day quarantine.

According to the university, the student has not shown any signs of the coronavirus, this is just a precaution.

The student is in an undisclosed location on campus.

ORU says they are providing all necessities to the student and are making plans for the student to continue class work while under quarantine.

The Tulsa Health Department commented on the situation saying they did not recommend to quarantine the student:

This week, the Tulsa Health Department was contacted by a representative from Oral Roberts University with concerns of the novel coronavirus regarding a student recently returning from China. A THD epidemiologist provided consultation on what precautions would be advised, which would be preventive measures such as frequent hand washing and for the individual to self-monitor for symptoms and contact the Tulsa Health Department if symptoms were to develop. Through communications, a misunderstanding occurred and no recommendation is being made to quarantine the individual.
