The Oklahoma City Fire Department is crediting a smoke alarm with saving three people when a fire occurred at their home.

The Fire was reported about 1:15 a.m. Saturday in the 10300 block of Lighthouse Court, near SW 102nd Street and South May Avenue. OKCFD says smoke was visible when firefighters arrived and the people living there had exited the home without injury. A cat was reported to still be inside.

After the fire was put out a search was made and the cat was discovered to have died. Those living there told firefighters they were sleeping when the alarm went off and woke them up. They reported seeing fire on the back porch as they left the home.

The cause of the fire has not been determined but the home suffered damage to the contents and structured that was estimated at $100,000.
