OKMULGEE, Okla. (AP) -- The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a 30-year-old man has died after being struck by a freight train in Okmulgee County.

Troopers say Karl Matthew Clayton of Okmulgee died Saturday along railroad tracks less than one mile (1.6 kilometers) south of Schulter.

The patrol says Clayton was walking southbound along the railroad tracks when he was struck by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train that was pulling 98 railroad cars.

Troopers say the train sounded its horn prior to the collision but that Clayton did not acknowledge hearing the horn and remained on the tracks. The patrol says the train was unable to stop and struck the pedestrian.

Clayton died at the scene from massive injuries and his body was turned over to the Office of the State Medical Examiner.
